If it's a Windows image, I would mount the VM using with SmartVDK and apply the image ....
Hope this helps.
Have not tried myself, though.
8.04 machine where it claims support for, among others, the "parallels" and the "vpc" format.

Hi Folks,
Anyone know if I can run Parallels Desktop Mac 5 on OS X Snow Leopard Server?
I know Parallels make a Mac OS X Server product, but I'm interested in whether their desktop product will install and run fine.
Thanks, Alex

You can run Parallels to a Mac mini if you try to do it with the Parallels Desktop and I would not assume it'll be reliable enough for virtualizing servers.....
Answer right there, but you can always download the trial and see if it works .

What would be the best way to go about taking a regular copy/image/whatever of a live (Ubuntu LTS Hardy) server, so that I can run it as a local test and backup environment within Parallels.
More detail:
I have a live web server, hosted on Ubuntu, accessible...

The backup drive now contains a full image of the server could incrementally update such an image with rsync or similar.)
Don't take server offline ; instead; server.packages.list ); install a base....
Backup drive, return server to service.

I'm curious for all your Mac users out there which virtualization software you use and why? I've been a VM Ware user for Windows for years and have been running Parallels on my Mac (mainly because VM Ware was in Beta when I got Parallels).
I'm curious...

Something is clearly wrong with my setup but nothing I've tried seems to fix it. Whenever I launch Windows under Parallels, everything slows to a crawl. Windows is barely usable and even the Mac side slows down too. Same results on a 3ghz imac and 2.3...

Without its horrible

There are two very important things:
Install Parallel Tools inside you Virtual OS (from the Parallels menu).

:) There was a hack....
Hoping it's VERY soon.
Parallels will have to play a little catch up.
Parallels Service" has again to be put into the folder /library/parallels
(Image 1)
this because Mountain firmware that's the issue.

Why I want firewire support in parallels
I would like to use a golf program Parallels add support for IEEE-1394....
This feature would be nice for parallels!
Personally for my Movie cam when I want to directly import clips software.

Have got an old version of parallels on this mac. it won't run under OS X lion so I want to get rid of it for the time being. What's the easiest way to achieve this and get rid of the windows file that it creates?
Thx in advance.

Removing the app won't remove....
Unless youdelete the app (in your app directory) and the windows image (most likely in your documents it.
I'd think twice about deleting the Windows image.
Directory, possibly in a Parallels sub-folder.

Has anyone used both of these? Is one clearly superior to the other? I notice they are the same price. Any pros and cons?

VMWare tends to be more polished and have fewer annoyance bugs but, currently, Parallels....
And now I use Parallels again.
Originally I went with Parallels since.
I've used each and currently use Parallels.
Is a useful advantage.
