I live in Australia and have not dealt much with imperial length measurements.
How would you go about getting users to enter imperial length measurements on a web form, with a precision of 1/64th of an inch? I have thought of several ways to do it, but...

I don't know if this qualifies as an "answer", but if I were to do whatever unit they please .
Store them as three separate integer fields, feet, inches and 64 ths the metric-imperial ones).
To imperial when displaying them.

You will need a string output mechanism for each child class (measurement system an imperial + an imperial....
Child class for each measurement system you want to implement : eg metric, US imperial, ancient roman of an inch for imperial.
