They will do a little bit of everything.
Gain a few more creature comforts in an inboard such as suspension seating, heater, etc that might family could still enjoy I'd go inboard.

I have an older Kodiak Marine inboard. My problem is one of the petcocks on the exhaust manifold is not draining. I started the boat up the other day and opened the drain up to let the water drain out then shut it off, the water seemed to drain a little...

Yes, remove.
This phenomenon is common with inboard jets and I/O's.
My problem is one of the petcocks seize on the new petcock .

I think it all depends on motor.
But we mostly ran our boats fast for skiing, tubing, etc .
From my experience with boats, growing up, outboards get better mileage than inboards, and inboard/outdrives.
