Download and install the tor expert bundle.
Polipo's probably the easiest to set up.
Note: This howto is written for Squeeze only. I have been informed that torbutton is no longer supported outside of the tor-browser that is available for download from the torproject. Torbutton does not work with the newer versions of Iceweasel available...

If you only intend to use Tor as a client - Tor website offers all-in-one browser package, use that, it does not require any installation, just untar it and click 'start-tor-browser.sh'.
