ASUS EEEPC with Windows XP Pro. I am logged in as Administrator, I download and install VLC. Everything looks normal and the install seems to proceed normally. Except the program is never installed. I notice that NOD32 is complaining about the update ...

There is a msi, but it does not do all of those Under http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/2.0.1/win64/ & http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/2.0.1/win32/ I see a slew of other installer.

then yum install vlc
There was a warning
Warning: RPMDB altered outside of yum.
but everything went well apart...

then yum install vlc
There was a warning

Are you sure you're not looking for binaries instead ?

You don't "install" the source code, the source code needs to be compiled.

I'm following the iPod Video Conversion Guide for VLC (VideoLAN) v1.02 on a Mac. I've reached the section where I need to choose which audio transcoding option to use.
Both audio format options for iPod conversion, mp4a and aac are simply not in the list...

$ port variants vlc VLC has also seen this July discussion at the VLC forums about a missing AAC encoder.
To install variants and pimp your VLC, including the libraries you ask for.
