Having spoken to a number of advisers over the past month they are all advising bond laddering rather than bond funds at this time. I understand their rationale i was just wondering what others are thinking on this subject.

With this company not so long ago.

So this is interesting. American General Finance that was acquired by AIG in 2001, previously bonds were rated investment grade, more recently were indirectly acquired in 2010 by Fortress Investment Group and currently rated B3/CCC.

It's a myth that municipal bonds "lock you in" to a long-term investment buy into a municipal bound mutual fund with $100, though.
