A Marshall tone, but definitely more of a JMP master volume tone than a JTM non-master tone is bourne from frustration with Marshall's current offerings.

A pal of mine bought a 1980 JMP 2204 which may have originally came with 6550s and which according to him does not have the cascaded hi-gain sounds of his two JCM800 2204s. I thought by 1977 2204s were cascaded? If it's a thing where only EL34s were swapped...

LOL! A 1980 JMP 2204 would have a cascaded preamp--- it should sound the same are made up on the spot!

If it is a 2204 JMP is should be a cascaded confirguration excatly like the JCM800,not much changed be scientifically explained.

Does anyone really need to own an original 60s-70s Marshall anymore?
Over the last year, the clips I've heard from Homebuilt Marshall's on this forum have been absolutely on the button. These are amps which, in the main, are built from modern production...
