All my Halyards are wire to rope. The wire can be hard on the mast sheeves and also cut through the mast through bolts at the spreaders and shroud tangs. Is it best to replace these with all rope? What is the benefit of the wire to rope halyard?
Regards...

There has been some discussion on the Replacing Spin Halyard thread about the replacement aluminum Jib box assembly offered by Rig Rite to replace the stainless one that is no longer offered. This is the link to the Rig-Rite page with the information ...

Hi -
I have a 1981 C25 that I bought late last season and am now getting ready to put back in the water. Over the winter I dropped the mast to check things out and ended up replacing the 4 masthead sheaves, mast light and wire/rope halyards. Unfortunately...

I moved that winch to the cabin top, and run my main halyard to the starboard cabin top with the jib halyard rope halyards....
My main halyard is on the starboard side with my jib halyard on the port side.
As you.

I am in planning to replace the main & jib halyards on my 1978 C&C 26 this winter. Currently have original wire to rope style but would like to go to all rope if possible. Wondering if anyone has done this and if the existing masthead sheaves can accept...

We bought a 1975 38 ft C&C in 2008 which had wire halyards.
Dave add my two cents anyway.
We have noticed raising our main to be so much easier with the all line halyard.
Simnple job.

When I winterized last fall I removed all the halyards replacing them with messenger lines made of about 1/8" braided nylon cord. Like a moron I secured the ends to the mast base instead of running them to the bow (jib and 3 spinnaker halyards) which ...

Additionally, messanger lines need to have more beef that 1/8-inch, which you've figured out... .
Does pulling halyards (if secured against chafe) actually extend the halyard and move the knots every few years.
Of winterization is busy work.

Abracadabra's mainsail halyard has no shackle. I've been using a bowline. The halyard is old and stretchy, and I've been wanting to replace it for years. The local West Marine had "spool ends" of rope at half off, so we bought a 280 foot piece of 1/2 ...

I agree that screw type is better.
I'm figuring on about 100 feet for the halyard halyard (main, jib, spin) on my last 2 boats.
(40 foot mast.

Well, it seems I went and did a silly thing. I was changing out my Spinnaker Halyard and I'm not going into the long story. The small guide line broke off and now I have the halyard stuck in the mainmast. And by stuck, I mean stuck. I think its at or ...

Good Luck the messenger line broke off.
From your statement, I assume there is NO messenger line / or halyard left on the outside down) on a spare halyard, then raise the hook high enough to snag the broken line..

OK, if you haven't noticed, I'm lazy. I am always looking for the shortest route to get something done. But I'm also pretty anal, and if the longest route is truly the best route, then I'll take it. So, with that in mind...

I love # xas0612/1 spinlock.
Some high-tech halyards have a hard outer braid and they can slip.
Try to have the halyard size you use be at 1 least size larger than the minimum size for the clutch.
For your halyard diameter.
