Why do people join if its dangerous and they know that they will probably be away from their families for a while. Also what are military families and why do they require donations. Are they poorly paid. Sorry if this sounds ignorant.

Others no alternatives, or desiring to kill.
Some people join for obvious reasons.

It makes me wonder why they want to join it, and if they are close to me, it makes me a bit worried that they are going to get deployed and killed in combat
