On a plus....
On a plus side the Beta maps now work on iPhone and iPad and when you view a pocket query it only shows maps went yesterday.
It very rarely leaves a good taste.
It has to have a tangible revenue stream that's not just adverts.

Beta; Release software that is semi- functional to a limited audience and let users guide the process until an application is complete.
No Beta; Define all functionality based on previous user-feedback ...

Finish testing, whether you have time or not.
If time is pressing and you haven't finished all your tests, then that's just tough.
Also, always test adequately.
Release a beta to customers when you have no known serious bugs.

Well just went in for beta #3, should have results by noon.

I can understand if the system is still in BETA be Beta is because one its primary....
Ever since the Web 2.0 trend hit, it seems like BETA has become a code-word for something that is new and hip and on the cusp of the newest technology.
