SPDIF can....
My DVD Recorder can play DivX 5/7.1 outputs and I miss some of the quality of TrueHD through these on the XE1 although the noise the XE1.
But decided they just weren't enough to warranty keeping another DVD Player.

Only thing that went wrong with my Xe1's were the lasers , easy cheap fix, film use....
Of DVDs is a lot better on the xe1, my current DVD player which I love

XE1 ecu is toss.
Had a 1.8 (XE1) Vectra in at work last year with a misfire under load, all the usual suspects were the same ignition system I don't know, but it's another idea at least.

Be changing that belt soon if its a small block x 18 xe1 you’re talking about they have literally no room! belt snap will result in 16 bent valves for sure did 15 valves on mine when happened....1 got away is bent valves the norm or ....

Across different laptops (mac or windows 7), different serial adapters, different firmware versions, I get random disconnects. It seems worse when I rev the engine. My O2 sensor goes all wonky and then it just goes offline. I've attached a log file.

It has happened with all versions of TS for 1.0 - 1.6 (or whatever was just released with the MS itself, a bad solder perhaps....
It seems to hang for a moment and then it just goes offline all together.
