What's the best defrag tool for a web / database server running windows 2008 server? will regular defrag improve performance? what are your experiences thanks

I use Magical Defrag , It is pay software at about $20 it to a directory and it will defrag....
But it's portable and appears to work.
The Microsoft defrag utility is a limited version (severly) of the Diskeeper disk.

Someone told me that it is not always a good idea to defragment a minimally fragmented drive (<2%); and that it could cause performance issues. Are they right, and why/why not?

Your best bet is just to download a defrag tool that does scheduling, I'd recommend smartdefrag http://download.cnet.com/Smart-Defrag/3000-2094%5F4-10759533.html You could just use it from within defrag c: > report.txt ....

Like any other hard disk, virtual hard discs (*.vhd) will suffer from fragmentation. So to keep good performance i guess i have to defrag first the virtual hard disc from within the virtual machine and also the (physical) hard disc the .vhd is stored ...

Can defrag just the vhd file on the host by using a utility like CONTIG .
Have a few servers and they have not been de-fragmented for two years. Is there a standard for what percentage should be fragmented before defragmenting? The servers are Windows 2003.

It just means that the file is not all as the OS sees it, it just sticks it together on the disk, meaning reading and writing it is much faster.
Is not the issue, defragmentation is not neccesarily bad.
Does windows need to be defragmented regularly? Why does MacOS not have a Defragmentation utility? Please teach a detailed person
