I don't think anyone suggested that simulations would be poor at training tactics. They do nothing about the psychological element though, which is what we concern ourselves with here - does pretend violence erode the capacity for empathy, and of course it doesn't.

Why is it illegal to have vibrant color in violent games nowadays?
Depends on the tone and atmosphere you want to set to be perfectly honest. A 'dull' pallet can work very well against brighter highlights - thats what one of the artists on a game I'm working on at the moment has chosen. It makes perfect sense in creating a visual hierarchy and contrast, and can look visually pleasing.

All of your poll options save the last kind of imply that it's an awful thing. I don't think children would get seriously screwed up from computer games.

Do Violent Video Games Cause People to Be More Violent?
Violent video games don't make people violent, but they do make children violent. I'm not sure if there's a proven correlation between video game violence and child behavior or not, but I do know that it was proven that if a child watches a violent cartoon where the cartoon doing the violence was not punished for doing it, the child would gladly replicate the violence in a similar, real life situation. The cartoon variable actually had a bigger violence carry-over rate than a real-life version.
