Depends on the tone and atmosphere you want to set to be perfectly honest. A 'dull' pallet can work very well against brighter highlights - thats what one of the artists on a game I'm working on at the moment has chosen. It makes perfect sense in creating a visual hierarchy and contrast, and can look visually pleasing. source

Violent video games don't make people violent, but they do make children violent. I'm not sure if there's a proven correlation between video game violence and child behavior or not, but I do know that it was proven that if a child watches a violent cartoon where the cartoon doing the violence was not punished for doing it, the child would gladly replicate the violence in a similar, real life situation. The cartoon variable actually had a bigger violence carry-over rate than a real-life version. source
