Why can't you just put on the number of stitches to make the width of the scarf like you do in knitting? All the patterns say cast on the length.

What I mean I don't understand the question.....
It won't stretch as much if it is knit lengthwise.
But in knitting, if it is knit width wise, the stitches can often stretch and you will end up with a scarf that is too long.

Also some comic book store in the mall (billings bridge ottawa) sells knit hats w ears, face that but as knit with wool of some ....
The eyes are two big dots or x's.
Se the holes due to it being made by knitting,like a scarf.

If you know how to knit/purl and increase/decrease than there are lots of little projects patterns on the net for super ....
Toys are my go to when I get difference.
Local library may even have books with patterns in them .
