In the case of people being shot, I find that just giving notice that the event is going to be video recorded is enough. Anybody on the witness protection programme will then know what to do.

Playing a single PCM stream is not THAT simple, alas easy to use a double buffered.
The beauty of a patent is that it makes the algorithm public .
It looks like the patent has expired , so there should be no legal complications.
