Dogs can do lick like in the food but it could be something else you are feeding such as treats (dog or people).

Is that a stupid question?
I've posted before about my fussy cat. He turns his nose up at 99% of wet food, and ALL dry food (though I keep trying diff brands, as I heard it's good for teeth). He had a vet appt today (just for vax) and he's lost 300gms...

I also find that wet food makes their poos smelly food is a complete diet.
As long as its decent quality, they don't need anything else (royal canin is good, thats what our cats have) .
My two cats only get dry food.
