It's like sudo.
Then go into System Tools and check off Root terminal .
If you really want to 'be like Win XP', why not unlock the root account & do everything as root the applications menu and click Edit menus.

TightVNC is:
free for both installing on the Ubuntu, I would imagine that the servers for the other protocols are part.
And keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.

I want a Linux OS that I can load on a flash drive, but I don't want to relearn an entire operating system. I want to know which tiny Linux installations are most like Ubuntu. For example, I'd like to use the apt-get package manager, the Gedit text editor...

Both articles are IMHO useful, despite the overlapping parts.

I have one machine setup with the apps I need, and I'd like to install the same on a new Ubuntu box.
Is there a script that will list all the installed apps, so that I can diff between the boxes and so add the missing items?
Thanks in advance, Chris

As for keeping up with these things, there's a few places... .
I would look into JeOS (Just Enough Operating System) , an Ubuntu server variant focused on getting just enough Ubuntu on a system to be functional that you can build up from.

The reason I'm not switching all of my computers to Ubuntu is that I cannot find a decent Usenet client for binary files.
Any sugggetions ?
