Just like the question title says, I'd like to save, for instance, my find-file and Meta-X history in Emacs' mini-buffer so I can recall commands later in a different session. Is there a way to do this?

It interactively will stomp on your current mini-buffer history, so you may not want to do that.)
It's also-additional-variables , like so:
(setq savehist-additional-variables '(kill-ring search-ring regexp.

Both ran fine - but for my needs / services if you do not like them, There is not a good way to enable them if you want the feature save a few MB of my hard....
