I have never had the opportunity to work on or with a team of programmers.
Can someone describe what it is like to work on a team. Who does what, when and why?
What positions are required to make a team?
What has been your experience working on or with...

Stay away from know-it-all types like....
Otherwise.
In many places, especially larger business, the only way you will notice you are working on a team at all is the weekly status meetings.

I've always felt lucky to work in a small programming team. I think the most I've worked with is 11 programmers. What is it like working on a project with hundreds of developers? Thousands? What does scale and what doesn't?
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses...

I've watched CFB for a while, and I usually just get attached to players, and have never had a team.
What's a good team to like?
I don't want a team that runs mainly an option offense.
I don't care where the team is located, or what conference they are...

I like Chester fans, a small team but one who don't exist like Stoke's style of play, but even then it's nothing personal.
