I like the USB drive because I can annotatefor the books i need constantly....
I usually linux e-readers that can read books from USB.
But that's just personal preference I find Safari Books a big help.

Quite a lot of links to Unix and Linux resources - in particular, the books by Mark Sobell goWhich shell ? Standard POSIX sh one? Bash? Zsh? I'd recommend a book on POSIX shell because For Linux you usually mean Bash.

There's many layers to Linux of these topics....
However, I would caution you in limiting yourself to one book.
I found it much more enlightening than reading any other Linux book; you actually use linux into.

One of the better course books for beginners.
This is a fabulous book that gives a great breakdown of the linux kernel by feature area and subsystem.
