I am a fan of clumping litter. I have used it for a while now. I think that the litter boxes are just easier to clean up if everything clumps together. Plus it keeps the smell down a lot and to me that is important. What kind of litter do you use?

I was going to try....
I use to get litter extra large litter tracking rugs that I keep next to the litter box and it does help A LOT).
I do find that helps.
I keep a long runner carpet in front of the litter box.

Barn cat came in and was sleeping in the bathroom on some flffy towels for the past few weeks. now all of the sudden he's taken to sleeping-and hanging out-in his litter box! i clean it frequently but eww GROSS!

Have you thought about using a storage bin rather than a litter box of the sides being tall, this also cuts down on the litter landing outside of the box.
