I now have to be working fine.
Using system restore seems to have solved my problem.
Avast 7 seems into safe mode and uninstall Avast.
I'm experiencing, I doubt it would have solved the problem if that entry did exist .

I have Windows 7 64 bit with Avast installed and I'm not always connected to Internet ( I have a dial-up connection).
While booting windows , after logging in with username and password, it takes up to 6 minutes to load desktop.
I solved the startup delay...

Omg, I just noticed "hosts." Has my computer been hijacked? Avast is still reading "Avast antivirus: your system is secure" did you use McAfee before you installed avast? i see lots of leftover files leftover files that may conflict....

I used Norton/Symantec products for years, until they got too cumbersome, creating VERY sluggish systems. Then came Kaspersky, which I used happily for several years -- though I did wonder about its contribution to bogging down my otherwise quick NetBook...

I am running windows ultimate 32 bit on my dell latitutude d620. I am running an Intel Core 2 CPU 2.33 GHz with 4 gb of ram installed. All windows updates are installed, including the optional. With previous avast versions, it ran perfect with no issue...

Well, if Avast! was blanket incompatible with Win7, you would see it here, there would be 1000's on this forum, all day, every day, and Avast! would shortly be in the toilet.

I've since tried a couple of other products but keep coming back to Avast as it has NEVER caused a problem on any PC where I've work for me.
I started using Avast when Norton became bloatware about 5 years ago.

Before installing Avast 7 free on multiple systems (a variety of 32 & 64-bit Windows XP, Vista, and 7 Home premium), I had the MS Sysinternals app - Process Explorer - installed on each system...
After installing Avast on each, Process Explorer crashes...

Which version of Avast do you use? Avast 7.0.1426 is the latest version.

All i need to do is turn off Avast.
I've looked and looked and I can't find a turn off button.
I don't want to uninstall it, just turn it off while I fix another problem.
Any help out there?

Try right clicking on the avast ball ( avast shields control ) Which is the another problem?
It's not wise to turn off the antivirus...
