Hello dear fellow vicidial users!
Is someone able to explain "local channels"? What are they for? When are they created and deleted? It seems like they are used as an "intermediate station" before dialing out and getting a specific call-ID from the carrier...

Why does Comcast not carry all local channels. Lewistown Pa is in Harrisburg Pa market, but does not carry WITF ( PBS ) , WPMT (FOX), or WGCB (Metv)? It does however carry WPSU ( PBS ) and WWCP ( FOX) from Johnstown/Altoona market. Isn't it required to...

They carry wpxi in sd but that is because cox will be carried here but... .
They do carry KDKA and wtae in Hd and sd .
I noticed yesterday that the two local channels are now mapped channels here.

Missing Local Channels - Since April 2nd

The terms considered "out of market" channels....
Local news, sports and weather and other programming from Pittsburgh out for network non-duplication so the channel would not have much on it most of the time.
And channel 803 in HD.

With digital, it either works or it doesn't.
Loss of channels is usually because of a poor signal.

My local channels (2,4,5) are very choppy and have been that way for at least a week. I can't even get through 30 seconds of a show before it breaks up partially or completely, skipping regularly. All other channels work correctly.

Until recently, my cable box couldn't tune the local channels at all, I had to have a tech replace the line in my building.
I think local channels tend to suffer more from signal strength problems.
