You can fly from London to Dublin or get a train or drive to holyhead and get the ferry.

I personally feel that Belfast has a very similar feel to London so if they've never been to either I would pick Dublin .

More about your situation, I would say (1) fly to Dublin, (2) fly to London, then (3) fly home is a lot less complicated.
