You can buy a long gun from an FFL in a neighboring state as long as you go through an FFL a long gun (almost) anywhere.

So now that ive gotten back from Iraq and am also single i think i might get back into hunting/competitive shooting...my buddy here in Colorado seems to be getting into it also, so ill have a shooting buddy.

As to the carrier.
The FFL make sure the FFL who is receiving the guns takes transfers from individuals.
It cost me $30+ to ship a long gun from cleveland to seattle by UPS.
