I live in Baltimore County, MD, which is getting ready to launch its digital public safety radio system.
I am in the market for a portable digital scanner and am looking at three models:
GRE 500
GRE 800
Uniden 396
Can anyone advise what the differences...

Does a 500 watt power supply always pull 500 watts? Or does it depend on the load being placed on the computer?

For a young family then 500 watts is OK but for turning out goodies quickly in a large busy kitchen be twice as beefy as the 500 watt one, but unless some consumer site has checked out with Harry.

It's been awhile since I drove a 500, but they're not that far behind the 700.
That's holding the 700 back and keeping it with the 500.
