Because reviewer will take lot of time to understand logic than/she knows what is happening there on the screen functional wise.

We're using rsnapshot for backups. It keeps lots of snapshots of the backuped up file, but it does delete old ones. This is good. However it's taking about 7 hours to do a rm -rf on a massive directory tree. The filesystem is XFS. I'm not sure how many...

You could try splitting the rm into separate areas and trying to do it in parallel however I might not expect it to... .
This is why block based snapshots are so good:).
If you are doing the rm at effectively at the file level then it will take a long time .

Given two datetimes. What is the best way to calculate the number of working hours between them. Considering the working hours are Mon 8 - 5.30, and Tue-Fri 8.30 - 5.30, and that potentially any day could be a public holiday.

Intervening days will obviously be a full 9/9.5 hours, unless they are holidays or weekends No need to check a weekend at the TimeSpan Class.
From that
you only need to worry about minutes and hours on the start day and end day.

Hey,
I am using DATETIME as a column type and using NOW() to insert. When it prints out, it is three hours behind. What can I do so it works three hours ahead to EST time?
I am using php date to format the DATETIME on my page.

I would suggest inserting the date in UTC time zone .
Your exact problem is described here.
Refer to the MySQL date(), interval 3 hour) should work.
To change the setting (doubtful), or you add 3 hours when you insert into the table.
