I was wondering if someone could explain the need behind AT&T's timing and the importance that the application be withdrawn before the FCC decides on it. More importantly why is so important to AT&T that they make such a big deal about how the application...

MCIPerhaps there has been a change in direction? See link below.
Was a regulated monopoly that wanted to get into other businesses and did not like being what they were.
