Account info is saved separately for each client copy.
An even easier way to run 2 or more clients on your Mac is to go to your applications folder, right to the original and the copy on your Dock and click one or both as needed.

I then use IMAP to connect from my Mac, iPhone and WindowsI retrieve all my accounts into Gmail using the built in POP3 access.
Redirect all mail to this account.
