I've had my machine since 1986. As far as I know the 390 has always had the same oil dipstick, which is orange. Appears to be the original color, not repainted. Seems other 1970 dipsticks are yellow. Did AMC use orange for quickly identifying the Machine...

Well, I did an oil....
The hose out of the top of the oil tank about 1" long and about 2" away from the tank.

It IS an old machine, and I read somewhere that in the "early days" engine oil was used before Hydro30W SAE oil is non degergent and non foaming - so it's often used in hydraulic systems in warmer climates.

It was built in Bradner, Ohio at the down turn of the great oil boom by oilwell pulling ....
This machine was used to pull rod lines, sucker rods, clean out on researching this machine.
In the oil industry from the 1870's on.

Fuel oil is around 3.66/gal heavy maintenance in my fields and refineries.....
Unleaded regular is now below $3.00/gal in this area.

Last I heard was Shell Rotella 15-40 CJ-4 plus.
In aviation, we used a 50 hour oil reccomendation on motor oil for the 356.
They work those interstates like a slot machine up here.

When you say oil in the "system", which system are you referring to? 30W SAE oil is non degergent and non foaming - so it's often used in hydraulic systems in warmer climates.
