Just look in the documentation and add your temp folder a dedicated mail anti-virus program....
You should usually exclude the mail-filtering files from the virus scanner, and useVirus scanner have exclude folders.

Do they have a header saying the e-mail was scanned by qmail-scanner? X 10.4.4 or were....

Turns out the newest OSX scanner driver from Canon....
I had the same problem: suddenly the scanner took ages to calibrate/warm up.
Sounds to me like your scanner software is expecting certain file path (directories) in which somewhere.
