The issue is my mail server supports both SSL and Non-SSL.
My mail server requires 26 for non-SSL smtp, not 25.

We have an Ubuntu file server in a small network that is serving about 8 Windows clients.
First, is it necessary to have a virus scanner on the server, or just rely on the clients (currently using AVG)?

Just look in the documentation and add your temp folder a dedicated mail anti-virus program....
You should usually exclude the mail-filtering files from the virus scanner, and useVirus scanner have exclude folders.

Check the files date of creation and last modified date, see images of the one on my XP Pro SP3 system, creation/last modified dates and MD... .
First I never take detections for granted (gospel), confirm, confirm, confirm, before any deletion takes place .

My AVG email scanner is running constantly. The pop-up option is turned on so this would be normal if I had any Exchange email programs or something of the like. I do not however have any emails other than POP3 emails, and I don't have those windows open...

Should be relatively easy on the phone side, there is an open source barcode scanner what can handle running the cammera and grabbing the data.
