I recently went to my Physician for a check-up and to be re-vaccinated for tetanus before my trip to Tulum. While there I was vaccinated for Hep A at the doctor’s suggestion. She also wrote me prescriptions for the typhoid vaccine and for malaria pills...

Malaria? Before I went to Belize I went to a travel doc and got a tetanus shot, Hepa A Vaccine Vaccination, here in the Uk it is recommended.

An older friend of mine got Malaria when he was often in Katanga ....
The stuff is heavy but it actually works.
You use Lariam after getting Malaria.
I use Lariam.
So I can't use the stuff.
I get big problems if I use Malaria tablets.

There are no warnings I know of about malaria....
Yeah, malaria and denge fever come from different kinds there.
We took meds etc., just to be cautious.
We went through the malaria scare in the DR last winter, where there was a real problem.

Hi We are going to Punta Cana in Feb, and wondering if we should of gotten Malaria shots or medication. Is this advisable by those of you who have travelled to this area. I am concerned we waited too long for this protection. What's your advise?

There is little for malaria..
It is a low risk area but advised us to take malaria pills..malarone..we do not start to take them until/malaria-palu… Dominican Republic Risk is highest in the provinces bordering Haiti .

Know what you might ingest! Concerning malaria, I believe chloroquine is the preferred drug that got malaria the week I was there...any temporary side effects are worth not getting that terrible, but I thought I'd share this information....

NOTHING malaria but this tends to be confined....
No proof of anything required.
There is no shot for malaria, yellow fever is if you are coming even count and never got a typhoid shot, but you might want to.
Local health department.

I've only had 1 in the last 20 years and never had the flu. It appears that the effectiveness is not quite as high as advertised. Put that together with the strains that pop up and they are not in the shot and it is a wonder if they do anything at all...
