It doesn't happen often and it is usually a fever and the shakes that last 4 to 6 hours... .

Those areas are not Malaria problem areas the same time on a medical missionary trip and Malaria was not an issue.
That time of year is late winter/early spring.

Mental disturbance is harder to find.
Just make sure to be vigiliant with using DEET there are some resistant malaria strains on the Thai Burmese border and elsewhere.
Without malaria tabs because we'd avoid the side effects.
