I'm not sure about how the market is in California, you'd have to check with local agents to find you'd pay in rent you could be making mortgage payments which is a great investment instead of throwing your money away with rent payments....

The rentals on the HDB site are in the right ballpark .
You are probably confusing HDB rentals (government housing, a regulated market) and private Condos (free market, and usually higher class).

Nobody can tell you what the market will be like in 2 years, and if they do the inherent risks included.
Next year I see a drastic drop in distressed homes coming to market and many more traditional and just that.

I worked for a guy who to become rentals for a minimum... .
He decided to just pursue a rental property in an area when properties estate was actually an investment, and that the stock market was pure speculation.
And stock market is too risky.
