Peep Toom asked the Naked Scientists:
Hello Naked scientists,
On your recent show you said the photon carries energy but no mass.
If E =mc^2, and the photon transfers energy, how can it have no mass even if the mass is miniscule?
Thank you.

Hello....
Are we meant to be discusing Protons or Photons here .
And that 'energy' is a equivalence to a mass.
Enough energy can spontaneously produce particles of rest mass'.
It's a equivalence to mass.

If energy & mass are inter-convertible then what will be the mass look like if Gravitational energy gets converted into mass?

In Wikipedia article dark matter, there is a picture that shows us the proportion of matter and energy in the current universe - CMB.
It seems to suggest there is nothing that exists as energy form except dark energy - which we are yet to see - and every...

One does not discern "matter" and "energy" in cosmology.
Of the same substance.

Feynman Electron EM Mass-energy Paradox
In the classical electrodynamics, D x B is conventionally taken to be the EM momentum. In fact, this is not necessarily true.
Example. Suppose that uniform static electric and magnetic fields E and B with D x B ...

I was wondering about a system, specifically quantum, though classical solutions are still welcome, which was resisting all applications of Noether's Theorem, and related techniques. If a system is invariant under a switch from E→-E AND m→-m, then what...

In this case the energy is the sum of the mass of the two particles plus any energy the system contains....
Potential and antiparticles.
It depends on your definition of energy.
Is less than the mass of its constituents.

Thanks knowlegde i just wanted to see your thoughts on gaining mass on a low carb diet...thanks Originally of calories overall on a consistent basis....
As long as you're eating a sufficient amount of calories, you should be able to gain mass.

You get more energy from corn by eating it directly instead of feeding it through animals. It takes 10 calories (energy) of corn to make one calorie of beef. Vegetarianism is better for the environment too! ChaCha!
