You also need to pick a focus, maybe not the first day Finance is just a web app....

I was wondering what other careers existed out there that utilized programming+quantitative skills? i come from a computer science background and when i moved to NYC a few years back i got a gig at an IB writing software used primarily by risk management...

finance just doesn't do it for me in the sense that i don't feel remotely the kind of passion....
Then I did an internship on an algorithmic trading desk where I could use programming+math+finance (worked on the risk system as well).
