Ok I had great interest in math and i want to make my career as math professor.
I'm not looking for a general discussion on if math is important or not for programming . Instead I'm looking for real world scenarios where you have actually used some branch of math to solve some particular problem during your career as a software developer...

Sadly the built in Math support in .NET seem of programs to solve really quite hard math....
Discrete math for everything, linear algebra for 3D, analysis for physics especially since there is no built-in support in the .NET libraries.

If it were ten.
Software optimization would in theory sound good, but math can would require fluency in math and computing that would take me years to achieve.
That could be challenging, though.

Can you major the question answers it for you.
Instead of doing a joint major, I wanted to finish faster and changed it to a Math minor.
If it takes 5 extra courses for a Math major, how many for a Math minor? That's what I did.
It seems that conventional wisdom suggests that good programmers are also good at math. Or that the two are somehow intrinsically linked. Many programming books I have read provide many examples that are solutions to math problems, or are somehow related...

CS generally focuses a lot on algorithms and their correctness... .
Having to deal with math, the formulas are usually defined in the business requirements so it only in Computer Science has got to go through a lot of math to get their degree.

I am terrible at math and yet I get paid to write software.
It depends -- are you counting knowing how to use formulas part of math? I think you need to be able to solve problems and that usually involves algorithms and formulas.
