Is there any way to avoid the list to get popullated?

Oh, sorry, i've just figured out, i had version 6.X, i've just upgraded to 7.X and now there is a button that do the work

If you LDAP service is not running on the Mac your only other options are general....
On between the Mac client communication and the LCS Server and you global address list (GAL tell you that the Mac relies entirely on LDAP to use the GAL.

Its description sais it supports file transfers.

I have only tried it on Mac, but they have a Windows version and one of the features is 'file transfers'.
Using, Pidgin, has this functionality though.
