I've now had the 520d SE Touring for 6 months and done 6000 miles, mostly on long hauls up & down from Surrey to the Highlands. Generally very happy with the BM after a line of 5 LR Discos as main family car, also enjoying the novel experience of no issues...

Hand Misting - 100% must. It allows you to "spot mist" and forces the hobbyist to "engage" the viv. Hand misters are cheap and available EVERYWHERE in many sizes and colours . Use a clean / new one.

I rarely have the AC on, but you are right as the screen will mist up badly, making seeing ahead difficult at night with oncoming headlights.
Not only in this car, but in every car I have driven .
