I found this a real dilemma my last trip, and I've done more research since and I'm still confused what the best thing to do is.

That should not be a problem-Mobile and Three to offer the best....
SIM only deals from TalkMobile, GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile who have similar packages on offer but you would have to have your mobile unlocked to use another SIM in it.
