1) I have never freelanced with a client over seas. While doing so, I am spending a lot of money to transfer funds. I currently do it through paypal. While doing research to see if there is a cheaper alternative...

However, if the client is willing with the client on mode of fund transfer, as well as who pays for the fees.
Then you might have a case to ask for more money to cover the fee's.

I need to move a decent chunk of money out of an Santander ISA and into an account with a different bank. I've been able to transfer funds from the other bank account to the ISA no problem but it doesn't look as straightforward for money coming the other...

If moving it out of the ISA and into a standard account you either transfer it to another Santander account - then set up a payee account.
Arrange they do the transfer by completing a transfer form.
