Send worrying about it and make your track! Unless....
You can keep your original bass channel mono.
Or the odd time I do anything like that is simply to use a send on your bass channel .
The frequency cutoff and it mono-ises everything below it.

I certainly don't like my mixes to sound....

Hi Amber, Hard panning is definitely a usual practice.

Usually you can set mono signal to play through the center speaker or you can set the receiver to play mono signal through the front left and right speakers.
Depends on how you set your receiver to play mono signal.

Be aware this is the idiots guide to panning, as you can pan any element hard left and right are panned to one....
pan the elements wider, until you get to the top of the spectrum and you're panning hard left and right.
