Do I need to have both components to support 64bit, mobo and cpu. Or is it just the CPU that matters? Thanks.

I just built a new system and I'm getting very frequent STOP errors. The STOP errors I've hard are 0x 101 and 0x 124, which are both Machine Check Exceptions.
I know that I have a hardware error, but I'm not sure if it's the CPU or the motherboard that...

The CPU failing is very, very rare.
We've only replaced 1 bad CPU.
We've replaced 36 desktop motherboards this year.
Two ways to look at it:
1) The CPU almost never goes bad.

I noticed that on the new dual socket 1366 server type motherboards there are two banks of RAM. Does this mean that if I have 72GB of RAM installed that Windows will only allow 36GB per processor or will one processor have access to all 72GB?

The memory bank will not be directly available for the other... .
If there are two memory banks each will be wired to a CPU slot.
A Dual socket board will be configured with two CPU systems that includes memory slots associated to each socket.

So now that my computer is 4 years old I think its time to upgrade. I have replaced the video card, and upped the ram, but also want to increase my processor. I have an HP Media Center m7248n with a MS-7184 (AmethystM) motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64...

Although the MSI MS-7184 may take a faster CPU, you may not be able to upgrade a HP computer, unless you can change CPU frequency and multiplier in the BIOS.

I have my eyes on the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz at NewEgg. I want to build me an 8 core machine. Is there any motherboards out there that will take 2 of these AMD beasts? The best thing I can find so far is this , which has only ...

I've installed lm-sensors and ran sensors-detect successfully. It edited my /etc/modules so the needed modules ( lm85 , i2c-i801 and coretemp ) would get loaded during startup.
I added also those nice applets to my upper Gnome panel.

I think i damaged my CPU, but I'm not sure. I got a new graphics card(GTX250) and so i imagine the inside of my case was a bit warmer, but after a week or two the CPU started beeping, so I installed CoreTemp32, and it says my Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is idling...

The beeps are they in a pattern at all? Or does it just beep a few times and shut down the machine?
I would try another cpu that fits in the mobo cause for CPU heating issues.
Down it's hard to say if it is the mobo or the CPU.
