Can some one please explain the difference to me. I find portability of hand held will suit me however I have read some posts where team leaders expect in car UHF as minimum requirement to join a trip.

I use both, Ive never heard of minimum in cab UHF as....
Nothing wrong with using a handheld, you get better range out of an in car UHF and no flat batteries.in cab UHF gets better distance if your on a remote desert trip for example.

If you are going to keep your Uniden handheld UH076 for a while, then I'd suggest you to spend a little more money and go for the UH078. It is a much better radio, uses much better components, comes with car charger...

Try separating the two radios and try again.....
How are you verifying that it's not working? If you are using another radio close by to verify, then the XTS3000 is probably overloading the front end of the other radio, so it sounds like it's not working .

I have a pair of cp200's and want to get more. Are there multiple frequency bands or just vhf / uhf versions? Anyone know where to send them to program frequencies?

There are 2 VHF and 3 UHF frequency with the Motorola....
If you are buying them used, you will probably have to find a Motorola, you just have to make sure that they are programmed accordingly.
That will work with your existing system.
