You can use libpurple for those purposes since it supports ....
The only way to archieve this is to write an msn or yahoo bot.
If I got it right you want to receive notifications from your server application using msn or yahoo IM protocol.

What firewall rules do I need to apply to block MSN Messenger? I've applied the following:
msgr.hotmail.com messenger.hotmail.com gateway.messenger.hotmail.com login.live.com
I've also blocked all traffic on port 1863.
Still able to sign-in.
Any suggestions...

Far better to prevent MSN Messenger from being run; it's stopping the problem Messenger TCP....
Than block it ;)
Add MSN them all covered.
Use tcpdump to find out what type of traffic does MSN messenger generate.

Has anyone connected to MSN Messenger from an ASP.NET page? We found this component: http://www.xihsolutions.net/dotmsn/ , but it works only for desktop applications and we couldn't make it work in our web site.

I would suggest Digsby .

MSN was like facebook ....
Never would interface.
MSN was cool though.
Basically only use skype and facebook now.
Add in all the social networks and people can reach eachother online at any time they want .
Steam replaced MSN for many.
