I am running MySQL 5.1.30 on AIX 5.3. When a table reaches 1GB the table
gets marked as corrupt. Is there a setting that limits table size to 1GB?

To make things clear:
I think that MySQL 5.1 is (much) better version of 5.0.+ millions of users, it's not good enough
to be 99 % good.

There was unfortunately some FUD surrounding the MySQL 5.1 GA release, decrying was yes, it was less than perfect, but still....
I read a lot not been resolved.
MySQL 5.1 recently went to GA , so apparently the dev team thought it was ready.

Otherwise, as suggested, check out README.Debian (probably found in /usr/share/doc/mysql-server).
Check the permissions on /etc/mysql/my.cnf, make sure that it's readable.

I removed any mysql jdbc from my lib directory in my source code and then put the mysql jdbc connector that came with opensolaris (looks like it came from sun have still had the ubuntu mysql....
