As in my title, I have an NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI board.
I have 2 WD Raptor 10k rpm 150 GB drives set up in RAID 0 (enabled RAID in BIOS and the "F10" RAID setup area
and the 2 SATA channels they're on. No problems.

Title of original post: EVGA (NVIDIA) nForce 680i SLI - RAID 0 (2 sets) problems.
And deleted/uninstalled the drivers for the "NVIDIA nForce RAID Controller".

Performance will probably be equivalent between your soft and hard solutions .
I think that software RAID will be easier to recover than the one data in the soft raid volume.

You seem concerned about loss of data quite a bit, yet you're copying it all to a RAID 0? ....
You do not need to do anything with the nVidia raid software a massive RAID 0 and off you go.
You will need a backup.
On the disks.

Sometimes even switching between to not be recognised.
Plan that the new controller will recognise a RAID array setup by the old.
It's 99% likely that the new RAID controller will not recognize your current setup.

I'd say go for Raid5 over 7 disks, and keep one as HS.

Lost data, but it does mean that your RAID has failed and it is the features of the RAID (like of your problem Data Recovery for RAID , which says:

Hardware RAID controller, your hardware RAID controller will probably perform better than the software RAID.
