I've driven to and from NYC from Philly several times, and initially, I was a bit nervous driving in Manhattan (beware of cab drivers there, it was okay.
Was finding parking, but it sounds like you're set at the hotel .

State law specifically exempts NYC from the permit encounters.
NYC does not even honor permits from the rest of NY State.
Always been that way and if I were going to make the trip I would double check .
