When Barack Obama took office, the U.S. national debt was 10.6 trillion dollars. Today, it is 15.6 trillion dollars.
The debt is a very real and major issue. I highly recommend reading this article:

Why are Republicans so bent over our national debt? People are more concerned about their own debt...? If I'm in debt my credit score drops and I can't buy a house..and maybe I would get kicked out of my house. But if we are in debt to China who cares...

The theory that says the only way to pay off interest is by creating more debt because the interest doesn't exist.

Alternative, do it yourself.
