So, brand new diary. Looking at the other one annoys me now. I put on more weight than I started out at and put this down to stopping going to counselling regularly and 'stress' like moving house/family member hospitalised after severe stroke....

Are there any foreseeable issues with upgrading to windows 7 from Vista (so that I don't lose anything), or should I bite the bullet, back everything up and do a fresh install?

I suggest you do a fresh install....
But doing a fresh install of a new OS is always better, has it takes out all the crap your computer had.
There are not suppose to be any issues with upgrade from XP/Vista to 7 .

I'm currently backing up my current setup to move over to some new hardware and was wondering what other developers think of first when given a fresh OS installation.

(Though I guess Firefox on a fresh build would open sometime the same century...
Apt-get -u dselect-upgrade
on the new system, to keep pretty much all of the installed software apps.
