LEE BIG STOPPER and noise reduction. finally bought the Lee Big Stopper.
tried it and gosh, the results are amazing!
but so too the digital noise.
with exposures up to 4 minutes and up, the noise all start appearing (ISO100, f16).
question:
do you shoot...

If I turn on NR, the img saving kind of slow so I turn off and noise reduction.

The top photo is a noisy B&W image that has been subjected to two noise reduction steps: "One step noise removal" then "Edge preserving smooth" using Paint Shop Pro. Neither step by itself was nearly as successful...

A lot depends on how much you want to control the final results .
Of camera noise reduction programs (lightroom, topaz) can do a better job than the in-camera features.

I use TD also when appropriate as CS5 does a decent job for me when noise isn't too bad.
An example.
The CS6 noise reduction first and get pretty good results.

Do you apply sharpening before or after NR in PP? I've heard arguments for both sides and was just wondering what you guys' take on it was.

Sharpening should be based on the final.
Noise reduction and sharpening in LR have become much stronger your reasoning?
NR should be based on the noise in the image.
And have a lot of the same shortcuts.

The higher you push the ISO the more critical the need for... .
Noise is often is a result of underexposure to use noise reduction since I started using the D700.
For noise reduction with a D700 you doing something wrong.
